- Marie-Grace is just wearing clothes from other toys. (The skirt is from a Cinderella Barbie, and the shirt is from a tiny stuffed animal from a local hospital. I just turned it so the logo was on the back.) For her hair I used a little piece of tulle to make a bow and secured it with a decorative brad. (It is a snowflake, but I thought it looked like a firework.) The sash is just a hair elastic.
- Caroline is wearing a mini tutu I made from a clear hair elastic and some white tulle. I just moved the waist up to her neckline and poked her arms out between the pieces of tulle. Then I secured the waistline with a piece of ribbon. I stuck on a little self-adhesive jewel, but it didn't stay too well. The headband is a little piece of paper ribbon with a few foil star stickers.
- Cecile is wearing an outfit crafted entirely from cupcake liners secured with tape. For the top, I cut out the bottom center circle of the wrapper and carefully crossed the resulting strip over her shoulders and down in front. The skirt is made from two cupcake liners flattened and folded in half. The sash is made from that same shiny paper ribbon with foil stars, taped in the back. The hat is made from piece of paper towel roll covered with another cupcake liner.
The mini dolls were excited to join in the Mini Miss Liberty Pageant this year. The winners get to ride on a special float in the parade. Their outfits show several different ways to create inexpensive clothes for your minis. Here's how I made each one:

A few months ago I ordered this adorable Ann Loren doll outfit on Zulily, so I thought I would do a review on it before Independence day. The price was $13.99, plus shipping (5.95 for two items). One thing I don't like about Zulily is that the way they work, you have to wait quite a while for items to ship. Just make sure to purchase items well before the time you will need them. Also check out the deals to make sure they are really a good bargain. Often you can find the same items online for a similar price with better shipping costs. A surprise bonus was that my package contained a small coloring picture of a hot-air balloon scene, just the right size for Saige. So, now on to the outfit. This is a 2 piece set with a ruffle sleeveless top and white Capri pants with 2 layers of ruffles. The print is so cute with the contrast between the stars and stripes. I love the bow in the middle of the top. The shirt also has an attached satin ribbon sash that ties in the back. The sizing is perfect for American Girl and also works well for Battat, though the pants are a little loose, and they are downright baggy on Journey Girl dolls. You can just secure them with an elastic at the waist.
The outfit doesn't come with shoes, but I combined it with a pair of gold flats from Springfield Collection, and I really like how they look. You could also make simple sandals with patriotic duct tape or ribbon. This outfit isn't the best for mix-and-match. The top can be worn with white leggings or jeans, but the pants really only got with this top. The waistband is really thick, so it looks a little bulky under a regular shirt. This outfit would be perfect for a parade or performance look, and it reminds me a little of Molly's Miss Victory Outfit. Overall, I really love this outfit. Ann Loren makes similar outfits for girls. If they aren't available on Zulily, you can also try Overstock.com or Amazon. They also have some really cute doll bedding sets. Thank you to Saige and Melissa (Our Generation) for modeling this star-spangled get-up!
The other day I was playing around with a couple of bandannas and discovered these fun patriotic looks for Independence Day. Grab a couple of brightly colored bandannas or handkerchiefs and try it for yourself! Sleeveless Dress and Shawl

I love my new mini Ivy, but I just couldn't bear to leave her in that ugly meet outfit. If you happen to love Ivy's fashion style, I apologize for any offense, but for me it brings back memories of pictures from my youth in the hideous outfits that are family reunion slideshow gold. I made this simple dress from a great piece of clearance felt from Joann's (ten cents!). I used some striped ribbon for embellishment, which can be worn in different ways for a variety of looks. What do you think? I have always loved using round coffee filters for preschool art projects, but I never knew what great potential they have for dolls. They are very cheap, readily available, and super versatile. With a bit of ribbon and some imagination, you can quickly transform that little circle into one of three delightful hats. Mob Cap: Simply center the coffee filter on your doll's head and secure it with a large clear elastic. Tie a ribbon around it to embellish, and add flowers with tape or glue if you like. Simple Bonnet: Fold the filter in half and place on top of your doll's head with the rounded edge facing forward. Cut a length of ribbon to go across the top and tie under the chin. Chef's Hat: Start like the mob cap, and then carefully pull up the middle section of the filter until it makes a large poof. Then tie a wide piece of white ribbon around your doll's head for the rim. Make an apron out of more coffee filters. |
