One of my favorite parts of collecting the American Girl mini dolls is getting the cute little mini book. Since all my minis are from the pre-Beforever era, I don't have any of the newer mini books, so I decided to make my own. I found a graphic of the book cover I wanted to use and printed it on a 4x6 inch photo paper with a white border all around. There are few different ways to make the body of the book, depending on the type of book you want. In the first example, I wrapped the cover around a small hard cover notebook and taped it in place. For the second method, I made a paperback cover by trimming down the cover, cutting several sheets of paper slightly smaller than the cover, and attaching them on top of the open cover. Then I stapled all the layers together down the center and folded the book closed along the spine. The last book was done the same as the first, only I wrapped it around Caroline's other mini book. I folded the flaps over and taped them to the edges of the cover to make a little pocket to slide the hard cover into. Saige found this cute mini compass just like the one the modern girl in the book uses to travel to Caroline's time, so she can act out the story and imagine what it would be like to time-travel back to the War of 1812. I hope you have fun making your own mini books so your doll and her girl can have fun pretending too.
